THE MULTIPLE FACETS OF US

Note: Longer Post

Have you ever considered how little you might know about those around you?

Especially psi and creatives who are often one and the same.

That doesn’t even count anyone with an “alternative” view that thanks to history – burnings or drownings anyone? – keeps their cards close to their chests.  But seriously, have you ever wondered about those around you?

I’m not talking about prejudice and/or stereotyping.

There’s probably a lot more than meets the eye.

How would you react if you learned something different about someone you worked with? A neighbor? Heck, someone in the family?  If you learned something new or different about them would it affect the way you treat them?  It depends, right? As I was working on one of two projects a flood of memories of just such a situation came to mind.

As you might have guessed, I was on the receiving end.

To give context

Long before I took classes in the subject I was tinkering with tech.

I remember my paternal grandmother’s reaction when she saw I’d taken apart my grandfather’s beloved transistor radio.

I was 7.

“Oh my gosh why did you do that?”

“Because I wanted to see the magnet and how it worked and try a couple of things.”

“You’d better get that back together before he gets home from work.”

“Don’t worry, I will.”

I did.

His reaction as a little different.  A EE he gave me a different more complex radio to take apart and experiment on.

I also had to do a show and tell with him which I definitely didn’t mind.

I learned how to do punch card computing while doing billing at Oakland Hills Country Club.

I was 13.

I later worked for a small Incorporated group who, after learning I had tech experience, gave me money to go to Radio Shack and buy the office IT solution, which I then had to put together.

I was 17.

That alone might make it seem obvious why I went into the tech industry.

Not so.

Ginsu Knife Moment

Yes, I had a passion for math and science but prior to August 6, 1979, I was on track to be an Olympic gymnast so my guess is my career may not have gone in that direction.  All I know is that the events of that day propelled me toward math and science.

And physics in particular.

I had a need to understand what I’d seen and experienced during the NDE.

Which was based in math and science.

I had a need to understand the universe.

Which I could feel.

But 1st – Corporate Black Hole.

I worked hard to become a successful senior tech consultant.

I’m proud to say I have a number of industry awards and wins to tell the tale.

And yet…

When a merger left me looking at a berth on Titanic II I knew it was time to go an alternate path.

Be a published author!

In reality this was a matter of circling back around to a dream I’d had since I was 3.

A “someday” dream.

Reactions?

Aaron after reading a threatening email sent to me from my then manager:  “Okay, you convinced me.”

My mom as I was talking to her on my way to resign:  “I wondered why you sounded so happy…”

Me:  Oh my god it’s here.  My dream is about to become a reality!

Universe:  Well, all doubts disappeared the moment my then manager started pounding on the conference room table and threatened me.

Again.

I stared at the ugly conference room lights while he pounded on the table and went off about everything he’d been planning to do.

Given we were sinking? Typical response. Bail faster.

I considered how the company was laying people off after spending ungodly amounts of money on an oppressive space we called the bowling alley.

An office with a conference room that was ugly but probably cost a fortune to decorate in blah and bland.

I finally looked at him – he was still pounding on the desk – and said, “Are you done yet?  My former manager is waiting to give me a ride back to the city since I have to turn in my car.”

I never bought another car.

Now What?

I got immediately to work on making my dream a reality, including attending a big-time writer’s conference in New York, where I got to meet and mingle with some of my favotite authors.

And Then?

Getting from that point in time to the publication of Riding the Waves: Diagnosing, Treating, and Living with EMF Sensitivity was beyond the long and winding road.

One that alone would fill an encyclopedia worth of experiences and info.

Eventually I was able to see my dream.

An author signing for my first fiction work!

I chose the Old Ship Saloon in San Francisco because it was where the story behind the Psi Adventure Series was born. I even gave them a full-sized framed poster – signed – of the book inspired by their location.

I was so proud to see it on the wall when I showed up.

I invited a number of friends and former colleagues.

including a good friend who’d not only been with me on Titanic I but who was the inspiration for a character in the Hangover series.

I had a few books on the table to sign.

Kerry’s Game, the EMF Sensitivity book and After Here: The Celestial Plane and What Happens When We Die.

Rough Waters

I almost cried when I saw some of my former colleagues walk in.

It was humbling even as it made me so happy!

I’d worked decades earning a reputation and respect as a kick-ass technical consultant. This was something totally different. I was sharing a part of myself I may have talked about but they had never truly seen before.

Me as the writer.

To my surprise one of them pointed to the After Here book and said “I’m not ready for that.”

He was afraid?  Of…the paranormal?  Seriously?!

I was surprised because he was an engineer and someone I’d known to be every bit as analytical as I am.  I responded by pointing out I was still me.

The consultant he knew.

I explained the only difference was he now knew something different about me.

I said, “You know, like if you learned I was a gifted pianist.”

He rejected me.

That stung.

I guess you could consider it a lesson in life.

As was going back to the Old Ship Saloon a short time later to see they took my poster down.  Seriously?  Talk about cool advertising!  The location inspired not only a book but an entire series and I repeatedly mentioned it in my books!

That really stung because not only did the owner – a fellow Midwesterner act so enthusiastic – I was not under the impression it was something he’d consider bad for business.

Hell, the bar is on top of a ship from the 19th century and reportedly haunted.  Talk about good business!

I will say I always had the best chili and service there.

While everything about those early days of my writing career came with lessons – some of which were harsh – I can’t help but think back to the former colleague who rejected me because I’d had a Near Death Experience.

Something at 10 years of age – dying – I had no control over.

As I circle back to one of two current projects I can’t help but snicker over a truth:  All those years I had customer and colleague respect as a technical consultant, I was a psi who saw and communicated with ghosts, angels, and a celestial being I later learned is called Metatron.

Which most never knew.

It’s something they would still not know if I had just gone from Titanic the Sequel to another tech job.

There’s More

It wasn’t just the subject of the paranormal that sent some former colleagues running.  A few of them totally rejected the idea there was a such thing as EMF Sensitivity.

Weird because they all had degrees in ME, EE, or CE.

Laugh or Pull Hair?

One of the biggest skeptics about EMF Sensitivity called me one day to tell me the following

“Did you know it’s a real thing?  I saw that the NIH and a lot of governments including Canada and Europe state that it’s real.

My book didn’t?

He said, “It’s called EHS.”

Um – what – my EMF Sensitivity thing isn’t the thing?

I mean a rose by any other name, right?

I just shake my head.  All those years I was working as a tech consultant with expertise in network interoperability and supply-chain management, helping customers around the world solve IT problems…

And seeing and talking to ghosts.

And having prophetic dreams and …

And while all of it existed – and exists – in one body – some around me – having only seen one facet – rejected all others.

Seriously?!

What they failed to understand I think is that the same creativity that goes into my books is what has always gone into solving life’s problems.

Including the customer dilemmas.

It was a critical part of figuring out what was going on after I relocated to the SF Bay Area and got so sick.

Was critical in helping figure out solutions and ultimately the cure.

And dealing with whatever life threw at me.

Including psi.
